Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: 31792 Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Saturday evening, February 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road in the vicinity of Silicato Drive (side entrance to Wawa).
Emergency response units from Indian River Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2), the Sussex County Medical, the local emergency services provider, and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control with the closure of State Route #5 in the immediate area, vehicle stabilization and preparation for extrication procedures, assistance with patient stabilization if needed, make access to the vehicle, scene preservation, and overall incident mitigation.
It appears that a Toyota Corolla sedan was traveling on Indian Mission Road and departed the roadway traveling through a residential front yard striking property and trees before accessing a wooded lot with tree and overturning on its side.
Upon arrival of the local emergency medical service provider(s), it was identified that one vehicle was located in a wooded area on its side with the driver of the vehicle being trapped. It was determined that a roof flap would need to be completed on the vehicle in order to access and remove the occupant of the vehicle. One person was transported to nearby medical facilities with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic concerns for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was not utilized for transporting the patient to the medical facilities.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
