Indian River Recognizes Michael Bowden – 50 Years of Service & Firefighter of the Year
The Firefighter of the Year is considered an honor within the volunteer fire service to recognize one of its fire service personnel for their personal diligence, dedication, sacrifice, and professional demeanor to excel beyond the call of duty by not only assisting those in need but by attempting to make a difference.
After joining the volunteer fire service in January 1970, this nominee has attempted to lend a helping hand towards many activities and assignments while pursuing many trainings and drill exercises, vigorously participating in fire incidents and alarms as well as other professional development initiatives.
This nominee continues to be a very dependable and valued member and simply put strives to make a difference in the volunteer fire service. This nominee has always been a reliable firefighter on the fire ground and his experience is reflected in his fire ground abilities and confidence. This nominee has previously been elected such positions as Vice President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Chief Engineer, and Engineer. He has also been awarded Top Incident Responder for many years, Firefighter of the Year and bestowed the Henry C. Warrington Memorial Award as well as a Life Membership. This year’s firefighter of the year is being recognized for his endless devotion and support to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company. He has been identified as an adviser and assistant to the Chief.
It is with great pride that we introduce Indian River’s Firefighter of the Year Recipient. Please join me in recognizing Michael G. Bowden. The Honorable State Representative Stephen Smyk presented Michael Bowden with a Delaware House of Representatives Tribute for his years of service.
