Nature: Outside Fire

Address: 24906 - 24933 Rivers Edge Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday afternoon, May 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an outside fire with no specific incident information on Rivers Edge Road in the Stonewater Creek development off of Indian Mission Road (State Rt. #5).

Additional information was provided while emergency apparatus was responding identifying this incident as a field and grass fire.

Emergency response units included Brush #80-00 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Brush #80-0 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Chief Steven Deery coordinated the Incident Command functions and directed apparatus to place in-service 1¾” fire suppression lines to suppress and saturate the impacted area.  It appears that the impacted area was protected by construction silt fencing which was newly installed to allow planted grass to germinate and prohibited the spread of the actual fire.

After complete saturation, the incident was placed under control and emergency response units returned to station quarters.  The fire was possibly due to a discarded smoking material.

Firemen from Indian River were called to the area around 1:30 p.m.; it appears that the impacted area was protected by construction silt fencing which was newly installed to allow planted grass to germinate and prohibited the spread of the actual fire.
