Nature: Structure Fire

Address: 36346 Rabbit Run Millsboro, DE 19966

Late Wednesday evening, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure on Rabbit Run in the Pot Nets Coveside development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a working alarm.

Emergency incident response included: Engines #80-3 & #80-5 from the Long Neck facility; Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; a full company response from Millsboro as well as a full company response fire Lewes; the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical service provider.

Initial reports from on-scene personnel identified a heavy smoke condition with possible fire on side C – D with exposures to residential propane tanks.

Engine #80-3 was assigned to coordinate an initial fire suppression attack inside the residential structure while the next due apparatus was assigned to assist with the aforementioned task. Engine #80-1 was assigned to stage on the nearby road and seek an exterior evaluation of side C – D.

Other incoming emergency response personnel were assigned to assist with fire suppression, ventilation, ladder the exterior to gain access to attic area as well as remove siding to gain access to interior walls, and utilize the thermal imaging camera to locate the potential hot areas.  

The Sussex County Paramedics established a rehab facility while evaluating firefighters, if needed.

There was one firefighter injury that required additional medical observation via nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

The residential occupants were able to exit the residential structure and after a search the family canine was located unharmed inside the residence.

Fire Marshall Investigating Long Neck Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is today investigating a blaze that severely damaged a residential structure on Rabbit Run in the Pot Nets Coveside development in Long Neck Wednesday night.

Firemen from Indian River, Lewes and Millsboro got the call around 11:15 p.m.; heavy smoke was coming from the residence when firemen arrived.

Occupants of the house and a dog were able to get out of the home safely; one fireman did however require medical attention.
