The Fire Prevention Committee of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has chosen fire prevention and safety awareness theme for the month of January 2020.

The theme is – What to Know When Calling 9-1-1 to Report an Emergency.

The Fire Prevention Committee has implemented various social media messages as well as designing and implementing the new message board announcements.

How do I make a 9-1-1 call?

1. In an emergency, dial 9-1-1 on your phone. It's a free call. ...

2. Stay calm and state your emergency.

3. Speak loudly and clearly.

4. Give the 9-1-1 call taker your name, phone number and the address where help is needed.

5. Answer the call taker's questions.
