Saturday March, 17 2012 @ 03:02:53 Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS Address: 27428 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966 Early Saturday morning, March 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Street’s Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle accident involving a telephone pole with no patient entrapment. Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate vehicle stabilization, vehicle debris & fluid recovery, traffic control and overall incident evaluation monitoring the severity of the pole damage. Emergency response apparatus included: Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police. It appears that a red compact car was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and struck the telephone pole on the south shoulder of the roadway. The utility pole suffered significant damage as well as the vehicle suffered significant front end damage. The occupant of the vehicle was out of the vehicle upon arrival of emergency response personnel. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident. Traffic along John J. Williams Highway was temporarily detoured pending mitigation of the incident. The Delaware State Police are investigating. Police say Elmer Acencio was eastbound on Route 24 around 3 a.m. when his Hyundai Elantra ran off the road on a curve and struck a telephone pole on the south shoulder of the road. When police and EMS personnel arrived on the scene, Acencio was out of the car; he was taken to Beebe Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. ================================================ ORIGINAL STORY: Delaware State Police today are investigating a single vehicle crash on Route 24 in Millsboro this morning. Police say a red compact car was eastbound on Route 24 around 3 a.m., when for an unknown reason, the car ran off the road and struck a telephone pole on the south shoulder of the road. When police and EMS personnel arrived on the scene, the unidentified driver was out of the car; no word yet on if the driver was injured or what caused the crash. |
