Wednesday, March 7, 2012 Fire Prevention Awareness – Girl Scout Troup #878 Place: Boys & Girls Club of Oak Orchard-Riverdale "Girl Scout Troop #878 Pursues First Aid Badges" The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has been working with the local Girls Scout Troop #878 at the Boys & Girls Club of Oak Orchard/Riverdale in order for these girls to fulfill the requirements of their Legacy Badges and earn their First Aid – Junior First Aid badge. Previously, members of the fire company attended an instructional seminar session and highlighted the roles and responsibilities of a firefighter; identified the importance of fire prevention practices and procedures; as well as exploring a career as a female firefighter. Today, the girls were able to evaluate and peruse a fire truck, ask questions, and ultimately have a recreational ride in the truck's enclosed cab environment. Indian River’s Fire Chief, Steven C. Deery, Jr., authorized the issuance of a “Certificate of Excellence” to the Girl Scout Troop #878 for their efforts to enhance fire safety and prevention awareness. |
