Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics
Location: ITAO Warwick Rd & John J Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966
On Tuesday afternoon, December 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, and the local emergency medical services provider were alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Warwick Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle rollover with occupant entrapment after striking a utility pole.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area, Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control with closure of John J. Williams Highway, vehicle stabilization, assistance with fluid and debris recovery, as well as incident mitigation. Engine #80-3 and DSP Avaition were cancelled while responding to the incident. It was confirmed that there was not any vehicle entrapment and not any wires down.
It appears that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Warwick Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The utility pole was snapped and broken in half. The occupant of the vehicle was out of the vehicle upon arrival of Indian River's emergency apparatus.
The utility service provider was required to respond and initiate a utility pole replacement process.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
