Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS

Location: Cannon Road between Friendship Road & Mount Joy Road

On Friday evening, February 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Cannon Road between Friendship Road and Mount Joy Road. The Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was alerted for the incident as well.

Emergency response units include Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Sussex County Paramedics.

Additional information was provided and determined that this was not a pedestrian accident but a vehicle accident with an occupant ejection. It appears that a maroon Hyundai sedan was traveling west on Cannon Road and lost control for an unknown reason striking a tree and ejecting one of the vehicle’s occupants.

Incoming emergency response apparatus were notified that the initial assessment yielded a priority trauma incident and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2) would be utilized to transport the vehicle's occupant to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) in Salisbury, Maryland.

Personnel from Rescue 80 were required to assist with patient stabilization as well as coordinated vehicle stabilization measures as well. The other engine crews were assigned to coordinate the landing zone for the incoming aviation units.

The Delaware State Fire Police were required to close Cannon Road between Friendship Road and Mount Joy Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

UPDATED: Georgetown man seriously injured in Friday night crash near Long Neck

UPDATE – 02-12-12- by WGMD– State Police continue to investigate a crash Friday night just before midnight that injured two men.  Police say 41 year old Bruce Bradt of Georgetown was westbound on Cannon Road when he began to slide sideways in a curve.  Bradt’s car left the road and hit a tree – partially ejecting Bradt.  He was flown to PRMC and treated for non-life threatening injuries.  A passenger, 29 year old Benjamin Haynie of Wilmington was taken to Beebe Medical Center for treatment.

Passenger: Benjamin F. Haynie, 29, Wilmington, DE

Bradt was traveling westbound on Cannon Road approaching Mount Joy Road. As he began to round a curve in the road, he applied his brakes causing his vehicle to slide sideways in a westbound direction. Bradt’s vehicle then left the road where it then struck a tree, partially ejecting Bradt from the vehicle. Bradt was removed from the scene by EMS helicopter and flown to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was admitted for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in Bradt’s vehicle, Benjamin F. Haynie, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.

One person is in serious condition after a crash in Long Neck last night (Feb. 10).

Just before midnight, Indian River firefighters and Sussex County Paramedics responded to an accident on Cannon Road between Mount Joy and Friendship Roads. A car was traveling west on Cannon Road when it lost control, went off the road and hit a tree, ejecting one of the occupants. That occupant was airlifted by State Police Helicopter to PRMC in Salisbury.

Cannon Road was closed for several hours after the accident. Delaware State Police are investigating this morning. No further information is available about the condition of the person in the car.
