Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Am Vets (80) – Former Crab Barn Building

On Wednesday morning, October 30^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire at the AMVETS building (formerly the Old Crab Barn).  It was reported to be a fry unit with fire into the ventilation system.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response unit assignments included ventilation and evaluation of the Ansul hood system checking for extensions into the attic or roof area of the commercial structure.  Ladder 80 was instructed to gain access to the roof for an exterior evaluation with these exhaust fans.

It appears that the facility suffered a grease fire that spread flames into the exhaust systems; however, the kitchen hood fire suppression system activated extinguishing the flames.

The Delaware Division of Public Health was alerted and requested to respond.
