Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to announce the following Fire Police Appointments in accordance to Title 16, Delaware Code, Ch. 67, § 6701.

• Fire Police Captain – David G. Blumenthal - http://www.irvfc.com/profile.cfm?id=13

David Blumenthal hails from New Castle County as a volunteer firefighter with the Brandywine Hundred Fire Company and has served that community for approximately 25 years with approximately 10 years previous firefighting experience in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

David joined the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in 1993 and has continually served in many capacities prior to this recent appointment as Fire Police Captain.

David joined Willow Grove in 1967 and has functioned as a firefighter, driver operator, and officer.

David joined Brandywine Hundred in 1977 and has functioned as a firefighter, driver operator, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), fire recorder, Board of Director, fire police captain and fire police officer.

During David’s tenure at Indian River, David has functioned as fire police officer, apparatus driver / operator, DVFA Delegate, DVFA Alternate, Board of Director, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Honorary member and many other committee tasks and responsibilities.

David is excited about this opportunity and looks forward to serving the residents of the Indian River fire district.

Stephen Smyk is recent recruit to the Delaware volunteer fire service and has extensive law enforcement experience and has been appointed to serve as a Fire Police Officer.

Stephen joined the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company in 2010 and has vigorously pursued fire school training and curriculum endeavors to hone and fine tune his knowledge, skills and abilities.

Stephen has volunteered on many community and civic related causes and greatly appreciates his volunteer tenure with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Auxiliary as well as the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.

Stephen is also excited about this opportunity and looks forward to serving the residents of the Indian River fire district.
