Indian River’s Smoke Alarm Outreach Distribution Information
As you may be aware, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company renewed its Fire Prevention Community Outreach Efforts in order to help increase awareness in our community about the life-saving benefits of smoke alarms.
This Fire Prevention Community Outreach Effort has shared and distributed free fire prevention and fire safety information via door-to-door campaigns, community meetings, homeowner’s association meeting, church group meetings, attending public events, and neighborhood canvasing efforts. All in order to teach our community about the importance of fire safety and working home smoke alarms and having an escape plan.
Since January 1, 2019, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has devoted approximately 319.0 volunteer personnel and approximately 802.0 volunteer hours in order to accomplish these tasks. (See Chart 1.)
During the same time period, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has collaborated with the American Red Cross and other private and corporate entities in order to develop a cohesive campaign to include smoke detector distribution, smoke detector installation, and discuss the importance of a fire escape plan. Many corporate and community partners have assisted with the acquisition of smoke detectors thus far. Indian River has distributed 408.0 smoke detectors, discussed the importance of practicing fire safety with 2,355 adults and 2,417 children. (See Chart 2.)
October is Fire Prevention Month! The goal of Fire Prevention Month is to raise awareness about fire safety and help ensure every home and family is prepared in the event of an emergency. The first full week of October is Fire Prevention Week in many public schools in Delaware and much emphasis is placed on grade specific educational and recreational programs in order the enhance fire prevention and fire safety amongst young children - http://www.irvfc.com/gallery/detail/37300?ss=1.
