Nature: Structure Fire Subject Reported Trapped

Location: 34627 Scarp St Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire on Scarp Street in Pot Nets Bayside with reported subject trapped inside the structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engines #80-3 and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility and Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional resources from the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical services provider.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial fire suppression and making sure everyone was out of the residential structure, ventilation and securing the structure for overall evaluation.  The Delaware Fire Marshall was requested.

It appears that the occupants of the structure were utilizing a wood burning stove and attempted to lay clothing on top of the stove which ultimately ignited and caused smoke damage throughout the structure.

At the time of the incident, there were no working smoking detectors within the structure due occupant disabling and or removing them.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control as well as scene preservation by limiting pedestrian and golf cart traffic into the area.
