Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm

Location: 100 Rudder Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday evening, September 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at 100 Rudder Road at the Sea Esta Motel off Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be an apparent electronic issue.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Ladder 80, Incident Command 80, and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.  The Delaware State Fire Police were also alerted for the incident.

Emergency response crew assignment include incident stabilization, evaluation of the incident to ascertain the specific issue, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation.

It appears that an electrical issue developed within one of the motel rooms involving a ceiling fan filling the room with smoke and activating the sprinkler alarm system.

The utility provider (Delaware Electric Cooperative) was notified of the incident.

The occupants of the motel were evacuated from the facilities during the incident.  The utility services to the facility were discontinued pending arrival of the electrical company.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall was alerted to respond to the incident location.
