Nature: Woods Fire
Location: 31030-31199 Phillips Bran Harbeson, DE 19951
On Tuesday afternoon, September 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a woods fire in the vicinity of Phillips Branch Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80 with Polaris 80, Chief 80-15, Command 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engine 80-3 from the Long Neck area and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, locate and identify the source of the heavy black smoke in the vicinity of Phillips Branch Road, fire suppression, and incident mitigation efforts with the State Fire Marshall.
The actual incident location was accessible from Holly Mount Road. It appears that someone was burning construction debris in the wood area off the main road and around the edge of a farmer’s field.
Chief 80-15 and Polaris 80 was able to access the incident via access path around the edge of the field. Engine #80-3 was utilized as a resource to replenish the water supply in Polaris 80
Upon arrival, it was determined that various restricted materials were being burnt during a restricted period as well.
The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
