Nature: Marine Fire

Location: Off of Oak Orchard
Coordinates:  38 35'51 and 75 9'43,

On Sunday afternoon, September 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a marine fire aboard a vessel in the Indian River Bay.  The GPS coordinated indicated that the vessel was located off of the Oak Orchard area.  The DNREC Fish & Wildlife Marine Unit and the United States Coast Guard Marine unit were also alerted to respond.

Emergency response units from Indian River included:  Brush #80-0 and 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility as well as Utility 80-8 and 80 Marine 1, Command 80, and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.  80 Marine 2 responded and was launched from the Pot Nets Bayside area and 80 Marine 1 responded and was launched from the Gull Point area.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, locate the vessel and suppress the fire.

It appears that the marine unit on fire was fully extinguished upon arrival of emergency response units.  Incident scene and vessel were turned over to DNREC and USCG pending arrival of Sea Tow.  It appears that the fire was electrical in nature.
