Friday August, 30 2019 @ 16:34Nature: Vehicle Accident w/EntrapmentLocation: Indian Mission Rd and Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, DE 19951On Friday afternoon, August 30th, the Indian River (80) Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a serious vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road at the intersection of Beaver Dam Road. It was reported to be a tractor trailer versus a single vehicle with both occupants trapped in the vehicle. The Sussex County Technical Rescue Unit was also alerted for this incident.Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional emergency alerts were requested for an additional Sussex County Paramedic Unit, Rescue Assist from the Lewes (82) Fire Department, aviation units from the Delaware State Police Trooper 2 and Maryland Troooper 4 were also requested. The Delaware Department of Transportation was requested for assistance with the roadway closure assignment as a result of the extended nature of the request.Emergency response crew assignments included complete roadway closure of Indian Mission and Beaver Dam Roads, preparation for vehicle extrication with vehicle stabilization measures, patient stabilization measures, traffic control, landing zone establishment, incident mitigation efforts, and other specific assignments deemed necessary by the office in charge. Vehicle stabilization efforts were completed immediately with vehicle extrication measures being completed within 15 minutes of emergency apparatus arrival. The second aviation unit and the County Technical Rescue Unit were cancelled.It appears that the tractor trailer was traveling on Indian Mission Road and the Subaru vehicle was traveling on Beaver Dam Road when the vehicles collided. The tractor trailer continued onward into the wooded area adjacent to the roadway.The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the initial roadway closure measures and were replaced by the Delaware Department of Transportation.The Delaware State Police are investigating and requested additional assistance from their Truck Unit and Crash Reconstruction Unit.Additional information may be obtained by viewing the following websites:
1 Dead, 2 Injured When Car and Tractor Trailer Collide in HarbesonPosted: Aug 31, 2019 4:06 AM EDTUpdated: Aug 31, 2019 4:06 AM EDTHARBESON, Del. - Delaware State Police said one person has died and two others were hurt in a car crash Friday afternoon.It happened around 4:30 p.m. on State Route 5 and Beaver Dam Road. According to police, a 79-year-old New Jersey man was driving on Beaver Dam Road when he failed to stop at the intersection and continued out onto the throughway. It was at that point, police said, that the New Jersey man drove into the path of a a tractor trailer. The two collided, sending the tractor trailer off the road and into several trees.DSP said the New Jersey driver was taken to the Beebe Medical Center, where he died. His name is being withheld while police notify his family. A female passenger in his car was seriously hurt. She was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition.The driver of the tractor trailer, a 33-year-old man from Pennsylvania, was taken to Beebe. He was treated and released for minor injuries. All three people involved were properly restrained, police said.The intersection was closed for about five and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
