Nature: Training – Water Rescue Evolutions -

Location: Rehoboth Bay

 

On Wednesday evening, August 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted an internal drill and conducted numerous water rescue evolutions and mock incident simulations necessitating the packaging and transferring of injured mariners from water-based scenarios to vessel for transport to nearby medical facilities.

Numerous evolutions involved injured mariners being packaged in a strokes basket for transport, backboard for transportation, or just stabilization aboard their respective vessel as well as transferring from water to vessel and transfer of patient from vessel to vessel.

Other subject matter areas and/or practical evolutions included the following:

  • Principles of Water Rescue and Survival

  • Types and Uses of Personal Flotation Devices

  • Basic Contact and Swimming Rescues

  • Firefighter Survival in the Water

  • Management of Aquatic Spinal Injuries

  • Personal Defense and Survival Maneuvers

  • Incident Command
