Sunday, November, 6 2011 @ 00:22 hours Nature: Water Rescue Priority Location: Rehoboth Bay - Water Rescue Early Sunday morning, November 6th, the Indian River and Bethany Beach fire companies were alerted to assist the United States Coast Guard (USCG) with a search for a missing kayaker. A green kayak was located in the Rehoboth Bay near Marsh Island in the northern section of the bay as well as being positively identified by the reporting persons. Marine Units were assisted with the aviation units from the Delaware State Police and the USCG to provide aerial search patterns. Units searched the Marsh Island areas, West Bay Park areas as well as the entire Rehoboth Bay shoreline from Indian River Inlet north to Dewey Beach as well as Rehoboth Yacht & Country Club. Indian River launched three marine units while Bethany Beach launched their marine units as well. All search patterns were unsuccessful and cancelled approximately two hours into the search. The USCG and the DNREC Marine Police were to continue their efforts in the vicinity of Marsh Island.
