Nature: Fire School Training
Address: Delaware State Fire School - Georgetown Campus
On Wednesday evening, October 26th, 2011, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company attended the Delaware State Fire School – Georgetown Campus to participate in basic and structural firefighting evolutions in preparation for firefighter advancement to fulfill their respective black shield requirements.
At Indian River, the black shield identifies a level of proficiency that clearly illustrates comprehension and completion of various skills set for basic firefighting and structural firefighting. Each firefighter must complete designated Delaware State Fire School training curricula as well as internal fire company specifications designed by the respective fire line operations. Some of these specifications are demonstrated in actual fire suppression tactics monitored during the simulated burn scenarios as well as search and rescue tactics and apparatus equipment location familiarizations.
The other ancillary activities included preparation and training for new recruits that will be attending basic firefighting strategies within the upcoming months. These specifics requirements were ladder evolutions, hose handling and equipment familiarization.
Approximately 20 members of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company participated at this training event.
