This is the current site in Oak Orchard. Apparatus Acquisitions: Also in April 1953, Indian River authorized the acquisition of a 1946 Dodge from C. D. Sapp for a truck to operate as a water wagon with a water tank being purchased from Pure Oil Company. This was the fire piece of fire suppression apparatus acquired by Indian River. In May 1953, Indian River acquired a 1926 Reo Fire Truck from the Rehoboth Beach Fire Company. In August, 1953, Indian River acquired a 1942 Chevrolet Truck by offering $300 down and $35 per month for 30 months. Building: In 1954, Indian River’s Organization Committee borrowed money and built the first new building at the current site in Oak Orchard to house their fire trucks. The initial building was a 30’ x 60’ structure that included two engine bays, a kitchen area, and restrooms. The building was built by John T. Rogers Construction Company for $6,500 and the building was completely paid for within two years.
