Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: 26411 John J Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE  19966

On Saturday evening, July 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway between American Legion Road and Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be a two vehicle rear end type collision.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, traffic control, vehicle stabilization with fluid and debris recovery, and assistance with patient stabilization, if needed.

It appears that a blue Chevrolet Pick up was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway attempting to turn into a private residential driveway when it was struck from the behind by a maroon Chrysler mini-van that was traveling west as well.  The impact caused significant damage to the pick up and forced the mini-van towards an uncontrolled stop in the middle of John J. Williams Highway.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close John J. Williams Highway at Bay Farm Road and Oak Orchard Road for the duration of the incident. The respective motorist encountered issues with motorist attempting to bypass the road closures only to turned around further down the highway.

The local emergency medical service provider was attending to the occupants of the vehicles.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
