Nature: Fire Prevention Award Presentation

Location:  Pot Nets Lakeside Community

On Saturday, July 6th, Indian River’s Fire Chief (Hayden Klingler) and Fire Prevention Committee Co-Chairs (Roxanne Bammer and Robert Marmor) made a special presentation to acknowledge the efforts of a young lady within our community for her fire prevention awareness efforts.

On June 23, 2019, a young lady was outside in her Pot Nets Lakeside community and heard an alarm sounding.  She alerted her father, who then helped her investigate.  They found a nearby home with the smoke detectors sounding and they noticed smoke coming from a window.  They then immediately called 911.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a residential structure in Pot Nets Lakeside.  Upon arrival of fire company and its first responders, it was determined to be a pan inadvertently left on the stove cooking when the residents left the structure.

Damage to the residential structure was keep to a minimum due the quick thinking of the young lady.  Had she ignored the sounding alarms the situation could have been much different.

In addition to the fire prevention recognition and certificate presented to the young lady, a local business sponsor provided a gift certificate in her honor as well.
