Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1
Location: Pot Nets Cove Side in the Channel
Coordinates: 38 38'03.31"N and 075 06'45 ,
On Wednesday afternoon, June 26, the Indian River (80), Rehoboth Beach (86), and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted for a water rescue incident in the channel area off Pot Nets Coverside. Additional alerts were sent to the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2), the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control – Fish & Wildlife Officers (DNREC F&W), the Sussex County Paramedics, the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet Squadron, and the local emergency medical services provider. It was reported to be an occupied vessel taking on water in the channel in the back bay area off of Pot Nets Coveside
Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush #80-00 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard facility, and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crews launched 80 Marine 2 from the Pot Nets Coveside Marina and 80 Marine 1 was launched from the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp area. Bethany Beach Marine Unit was launched from the Indian River Inlet Marina. All assigned marine units responded to the designed area to assist. All units were to respond to the back bay area and commence a search pattern for the designated vessel. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was overhead in the general vicinity, while the vessel occupants were shooting emergency flares and we were able to coordinate the location of the vessel based upon the available information. The DNREC F&W Officers were able to locate the vessel and secure a safe location near the shoreline.
All responding units were cancelled upon arrival into the general vicinity of the incident location.
The DNREC F&W Officers coordinated the incident resolution.
