Nature: Labor Day – Long Neck Style
Address: Pot Nets Bayside
On Sunday, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company assisted the Long Neck Business Association (LNBA)with its Annual Labor Day Event – Long Neck Style. This milestone is to recognize the end of the summer season by hosting various commercial and entrepreneurial entities to celebrate a “great season” and good by all.
Traditionally, this event is hosted by Tunnell Companies in the Pot Nets Bayside community at the beach and waterfront areas. The event is a conglomeration of arts, crafts, vendors, recreational and entertainment activities with an overall evening capstone with a fireworks display. This year's entertainment was the finale of the Long Neck Idol competition that has been sponsored by the American Legion Post #28 over the past weeks.
The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provides fire prevention activities, fire company awareness activities, fire work stand-by crews from the time of the fireworks arrival on the location property until expiration of all ordinances, marine unit monitoring of waterfront vessels during the fireworks demonstration to event staging and any needed fire suppression activities associated with the fire work embers or debris.
The Long Neck Business Association was further assisted by the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police, the Delaware State Fire Police and many other private organizations.
This year Indian River partnered with the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) to support their mission of empowering the community by raising awareness of breast health issues through outreach, education and support services, in order to facilitate early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
In collaboration with DBCC, Indian River has designed a t-shirt for public offerings so that you may also lend your support to such a worthy cause. The signature Pink shirt, embossed with the Maltese cross, the Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon amended to resemble a fire suppression hose line and nozzle, the DBCC logo, Indian River's station numbers and Indian River’s Indian head is displayed with the words -- “Indian River cares enough to wear PINK.”
The unveiling of the t-shirts was performed at the Annual Labor Day – Long Neck event. The t-shirt will be available at various functions of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company throughout the month of September and October, at our monthly All You Can Eat Breakfast events while supplies last. Sizes of large and extra large are available and will be on hand for purchase at $20 each.
Illustrated below are varieties of photographs to reminisce the events of the day.
