Saturday May, 11 2019 @ 16:05 Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1 Location: 25105 Herring Landing, Lewes, DE 19958 On Saturday May 11, 2019, the Rehoboth Beach (86), Bethany Beach (70), and Indian River (80) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a priority level water rescue in the marshy area off of Herring Landing Road in the Rehoboth Bay. The United States Coast Guard – Indian River Inlet, Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 were also alerted to assist with the incident. The reporting person advised the Emergency Operations Center what they believed to be a pink and white parachute hit the water in the marshy area off of Rehoboth Bay. Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Emergency response units responded to the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp for launching. Emergency response units responded to the reported incident location for evaluation and search. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was able to identify that the items of concern were balloons that had fallen and become launched in the marshy area. All units were released and returned to quarters and the incident was marked as good intent.
