Friday August, 12 2011 @ 18:29:44 Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Lewes (Station #82) Address: 34083 Treadwell Cir Lewes, DE 19958 Early Friday evening, August 12th, the Lewes (#82), Rehoboth (#86) and Indian River (#80) volunteer fire companies were alerted to for a reported working structure fire on Treadwell Circle, Hart’s Landing off of John J. Williams Highway in Lewes’ fire district. The Milton Fire Company (#85) was also dispatched to the incident location. It was reported to have heavy fire and smoke from the second floor section of the house. Emergency response crews reported heavy smoke clearly visible from many locations within the Lewes, Rehoboth and Long Neck corridor. The Sussex County Paramedics arrived on-scene and provided immediate updates regarding the status of fire with heavy flames, fire and smoke showing as well as the occupants of the house evacuated and attempting to notify the neighboring residents. Emergency response crews were requested to tap the nearby fire hydrants and supply initial fire apparatus with water via a large diameter (5”) hose lay as well as initiate fire suppression strategies to protect neighboring structures and to mitigate the incident. Indian River responded with Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. Engine #80-1 was assigned to supply Engine #82-9 with water pending establishment of the water hydrant resources and initiate a fire suppression attack from the western side of the residence. Indian River units remained on-scene until approximately 9:15 p.m. The Millsboro Fire Company was requested to provide fire district stand-by coverage for Indian River and was required to respond to a cardiac arrest incident in the development of Pot Nets Creekside off of Long Neck Road. There were no firefighter injuries. The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating. Fireman from Lewes, Indian River, Milton and Rehoboth responded to the blaze at 6:30 p.m. The home did have a working smoke detector but the homeowner still required medical treatment at Beebe Medical Center. Damage has been estimated at $315,000.
