Thursday August, 4 2011 @ 06:21:00 Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS Location: Captain's Grant Address: 32412 Captain's Way Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday, August 4th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a submerged vehicle into a water retention pond within the Captain's Grant development off of Oak Orchard Road with unknown occupancy at the time. Emergency response units included Rescue 80; Utility 80-8 with an inflatable raft for pond access from the Oak Orchard facility; and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. Upon arrival of emergency response units, it was determined that a red Dodge Ram was partially submerged into a residential development retention pond and the vehicle was running. Personnel were assigned to evaluate the vehicle to identify occupancy, shut off the vehicle, and implement scene preservation measures to secure any potential information for the Delaware State Police. There were no occupants in the vehicle and the incident appears to be an intentional act. Incident access points to the pond and egress points from the pond were clearly visible. The incident was found by a passing motorist who is a Delaware State Fire Police Officer. The Delaware State Police are investigating.
