Monday August, 1 2011 @ 13:08:44 Nature: Structure Fire – Standby Coverage Assignment Address: 12793 Laurel Road, Laurel, DE 19956 On Monday, August 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide a standby cover-up assignment for the Millsboro Fire Company (Station #83) while Millsboro was assisting the Laurel Fire Company (Station #81) with a working structure fire. Engine #80-3 responded to the Millsboro Fire Company from our Long Neck facility. Engine #80-3 was required to respond to the following incidents within the Millsboro fire district while on the cover up assignment: • Automatic Fire Alarm – Pizza Shop - BJ’s Warehouse Shopping Complex. The incident involved a pull station activation and all emergency response units were cleared from this alarm. • Medical Emergency Drive Up at Millsboro Fire Company. The incident involved a motorist that drove up to the fire house with chest pains. Emergency pre-hospital care was provided pending the arrival of Millsboro’s ambulance. Additional fire company alerts included Gumboro (Station 79), Millsboro (Station 83), Delmar (Station 74), Blades (Station 71), Maryland Station 14 and Sussex County Paramedics (Medic 102) were requested to assist. Upon arrival Laurel’s Incident Command (Command 81), Mark Sheridan instructed crews to begin an attack on the hay barn that was involved in the fire. The hay barn was exposed to grain silos, pesticide tanks and livestock. Emergency Response Crews worked for approximately four and half hours to gain control of smoldering fire. David G. Horsey and Sons loaned farm equipment that was utilized to remove smoldering hay and other debris from the still burning barn. All emergency response units were cleared all units at approximately 17:15hrs. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating
