Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 2 Houses Down from 30614 Gull Point Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Address:  30646 Gull Point Road, Millsboro, DE  19966

On Sunday afternoon, March 31st, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Georgetown (77) fire companies were alerted for a garage fire in the vicinity of 30614 Gull Point Road.  The initial dispatch was immediately upgraded to a working structure fire with possible multiple children trapped.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Ladder 80, Rescue 80, Brush 80-0. Command 80-15, Van 80-12 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional alerted entities included the local EMS provider and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included activation of front bumper cross-lay fire suppression lines for immediate efforts to knock down the fire from Tanker 80 and next arriving unit (Engine #80-3) as well establishment of water supply, manpower pool, water shuttle and continued suppression efforts.  Immediate closure of Gull Point Road between John J. Williams Highway and Rosedale Road, scene preservation.

First arriving units encountered heavy fire showing with initial reports of entrapment. After further assessment, it was identified that everyone was out of the structure and Tanker 80 and Engine 80-3 were ordered to place several attack lines in-service.  Other crews from Millsboro and Georgetown assisted with fire extinguishment, overhaul, and other tasks assigned.

The Dagsboro (73) Volunteer Fire Company provided an engine standby assignment at Indian River’s Station #1 in Oak Orchard.

There were no reported injuries and the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating. 

The American Red Cross was notified for the displaced residents.

The garage was totally destroyed upon arrival of emergency response units and the residential structure was also a total loss as a result of the incident.

The Delaware State Police were present at the incident location as well.
