Friday July, 8 2011 @ 20:27:49 Nature: Odor Investigation Address: 25400 - 25437 Norris St Millsboro, DE 19966 Friday July, 8 2011 @ 20:59:50Nature: Electrical Hazard Address: 33950 - 34007 Indy St Millsboro, DE 19966 On Friday evening, July 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to two back-to-back electrical hazards associated with potential lightning strikes during a period of inclement weather. Initially, Indian River was alerted for an odor investigation on Norris Street in the Leisure Point development off of Long Neck Road. Duty Officer Ryan Mock identified that a recreational camper was impacted by lightning and requested an interior evaluation with the thermal imaging camera. It appears that lightning struck a nearby tree and also a pickup truck parked nearby causing the driver’s side window to shatter and the vehicle electrical system to activate windshield wipers, etc. Engine #80-3 from our Long Neck facility and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility responded. Upon return to the various fire stations, Indian River was alerted second time for an electrical hazard on Indy Street in the Leisure Point development off of Long Neck Road. This incident involved lightning strike a tree with active fire and overhead power lines. Engine #80-3 from our Long Neck facility and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility responded and waited for the arrival of the power company – Delaware Electric Cooperative. All units were returned to the respective stations at 22:43 hours.
