Nature: Fire Company Drill & Inservice Training

On Wednesday evening June 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company conducted its Monthly Drill and Inservice Training which included three workstations: (1) Ground ladder orientation and familiarization; (2) Roof ventilation and access; and (3) High Angle Rescue with patient extrication.
The training stations were conducted under the direction of event training coordinator Charles Marshall who developed the curriculum objectives with the assistance of (1) Hayden Klinger, First Assistant Chief @ Indian River; (2) Kyle Perry, Third Assistant Chief @ Ellendale; and (3) Gordon Davis, Career Firefighter @ City of Wilmington, President of Lewes Fire Company and Past Chief of Lewes Fire Company.
The ground ladder evolution included familiarization of truck company operations, ladder operations, raising and lowering ladders, securing ladders, and significance and importance of ground ladders.
The ventilation evolution included familiarization with roof ventilation and methods of roof ventilation. Actual props were developed and engaged by the Ellendale Fire Company for this training exercise.
The high angle rescue with patient extrication included familiarization with ladder truck operations, ropes and rigging operations and objectives, extrication techniques with strokes basket and other operational concerns with securing the riggings and patient safety items.
