Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1

Location: At The End Of The Street - 25939 South Maple St Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday morning, January 21st, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83) Selbyville (88), and Dagsboro (73) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a priority water rescue incident on South Maple Street in Bay City off of Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency services were requested from the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police and the local emergency medical services provider.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center was advising responding emergency response units of a vehicle being completely submerged in the waterway and unknown status of vehicle occupants.  The anticipated high temperature for the day was estimated to be approximately 22 degrees with a significant wind chill factor

Emergency response unit response included Engine #80-1 and Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility, Utility 80-11 and Utility 80-8 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Dive units from Millsboro (83), Selbyville (88), and Dagsboro (73) and 83 and 73 Marine Units.

Emergency response crews did launch a marine unit for enhanced access to the vehicle and other assignments did include assistance with vehicle extrication once Bunting’s Garage arrived.

It appears that a Dodge sedan was completely submerged in the waterway off South Maple Avenue in Bay City.  Upon extrication of the vehicle, it was determined that the vehicle was reported stolen and unoccupied.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
