IR Implements & Appoints a Scholarship Committee to Promote Recruitment & Retention Initiatives....
Earlier in Calendar Year 2018, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant and has implemented a Scholarship Committee to establish and administer the eligibility criteria.
Indian River was awarded $125,788 under this initiative to ameliorate concerns that impact our organization which include:
· Approximately one-half of Indian River’s volunteers are over the age of 60;
· Young volunteers are needed to keep up with the training and physical demands of the tasks;
· New members will alleviate time for the current members to coordinate training and other fire company activities; and
· Scholarship opportunities for the recruitment and retainment processes.
This grant award will target and focus on designated population groups within our immediate community to provide services for the fire district of Indian River.
(1) Junior Recruits and Retains – age group 16-18; and
(2) Active & Regular Recruits and Retains – age group 18-35.
This grant award allocated approximately $15,000 per year for a four-year period which could be allocated in the following manner:
(A) New Junior Recruits (membership applicants after grant commencement) could be allocated up to $1,000 per academic year for post-secondary educational initiatives;
(B) Existing Junior Volunteers could be allocated up to $1,250 per academic year for post-secondary educational initiatives; and
(C) Existing Active and Regular Volunteers could be allocated funding per academic semester for post-secondary educational initiatives.
