Nature: Washdown (Fuel Spill)

Location: Royal Farms (80)

26672 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday evening, January 11th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown request as a result of property damage vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway.  It was reported two vehicles with injuries but flood and debris clean-up were needed.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-11 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to collect and remove the vehicle debris and fluids from the roadway surface as well as providing traffic control assistance.

It appears that the Honda compact car attempted to enter John J. Williams Highway from the Royal Farms Complex and did not yield the right-of-way to the approaching GMC utility van.  Both vehicles collided causing front end damage to both vehicles.  The occupants of the Honda were evaluated by emergency medical services because of their age and no parents were present at the time.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
