Lewes-area arsons under investigation
State police seek help from witnesses
By Roger Hillis | May 13, 2011
The state Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate an arson that took place in broad daylight April 28 at a home west of near Lewes. Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Lee said he wouldn't rule out the possibility that the fire could be linked to a March 30 fire on nearby Beaver Dam Road.
"We never rule anything out," Lee said. "All I can say for now is that one of those fires was definitely the work of an arsonist."
Lee said he would not elaborate so as not to hamper the investigations.
The March 30 blaze occurred about 8 p.m. and caused about $10,000 in damages to an unoccupied house. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.
The April 28 fire took place about 7 p.m. and destroyed a family's home in the Estates at Bridle Ridge community. No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported. Damages to the house on Ashford Drive, which intersects with Robinsonville Road, are estimated at $500,000.
The home's owners declined to comment beyond saying they have no intention of moving and plan to rebuild immediately. Several neighbors said they didn't see anyone suspicious in the area at the time the fire occurred.
