Wednesday March, 30 2011 @ 19:45:29 Nature: Structure Fire (Assist Lewes Fire Department, Station #82) Address: 18243 Beaver Dam Rd Lewes, DE 19958 On Wednesday evening, March 30th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist Station #82 with a working structure fire on Beaver Dam Road in the vicinity of Jimtown. The initial emergency operations dispatch called Lewes (Station #82); Rehoboth Beach (Station #86); and Indian River (Station #80) to the incident. Lewes’ Incident Commander went on-scene with heavy fire and smoke showing from the rear of the residential structure. A quick size up of the incident included a two story wood structure with heavy fire and smoke showing from the rear of the structure. An immediate assignment was provided to first due emergency response apparatus. A second request was to identify locations of responding water tankers with an immediate request to sound Lewes’ second alarm. Shortly thereafter, the Incident Commander requested the Sussex County Emergency Operations to request a tanker assist from Georgetown (Station #77) and Milton (Station #85). Indian River’s first due apparatus was requested to send its manpower resources to the manpower pool and dump all water into the nearest engine from Lewes and move to permit tanker access. Lewes' ladder truck apparatus was assigned to set-up and provide access to the roof of the structure. Engine #80-1 and Engine #80-3 arrived simultaneously at the incident location and directed their manpower resources accordingly. Tanker 80 arrived shortly thereafter. The initial responding apparatus from Lewes provided an excellent knock down of the fire. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating. Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Randy Lee said he wouldn't rule out the possibility that the fire could be linked to a March 30 fire on nearby Beaver Dam Road. "We never rule anything out," Lee said. "All I can say for now is that one of those fires was definitely the work of an arsonist." Lee said he would not elaborate so as not to hamper the investigations. The March 30 blaze occurred about 8 p.m. and caused about $10,000 in damages to an unoccupied house. The cause of that fire is still under investigation. The April 28 fire took place about 7 p.m. and destroyed a family's home in the Estates at Bridle Ridge community. No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported. Damages to the house on Ashford Drive, which intersects with Robinsonville Road, are estimated at $500,000. The home's owners declined to comment beyond saying they have no intention of moving and plan to rebuild immediately. Several neighbors said they didn't see anyone suspicious in the area at the time the fire occurred.
