Nature: Structure Fire

On Sunday afternoon, April 17th, the Indian River, Rehoboth and Milton fire companies were alerted to assist Lewes Fire Department on a working structure fire in the Sandy Brae development near Midway.
Engine #80-3 from our Long Neck facility, Engine #80-1 and Tanker 80 from our Oak Orchard facility responded to the incident. Engine #80-3’s personnel were assigned to coordinate a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) assignments and all others were sent to the manpower pool. Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-1 were assigned to the water supply task force.
Lewes Fire Department offers the following incident synopsis: “At 1611 hrs., Lewes FD along with Rehoboth, Indian River, and Milton FD were dispatched to a working house fire on Poplar Ave. in Sandy Brae development, Midway. Deputy 82 was first on scene advised 82-15 of heavy fire from Side B on arrival. 82-5 was first due and stretched a 1¾” hand line to the front door for the initial interior attack. Scene was brought under control 1645. State Fire Marshall is investigating.

Lewes Fire Kills Family’s Pet Dogs
A house fire in Lewes Sunday afternoon caused an estimated $200,000 damage and killed the family’s pet dogs.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal says the blaze broke out on Poplar Lane just before 4 p.m.
Firemen from Lewes, Rehoboth, Milton and Indian River responded.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
