Thursday, April, 14 2011 Nature: 2011 Cat Country 97.5 & 105.9 Community Heroes Awards Banquet Location: Black Diamond Lodge Address: Fruitland, Maryland On Thursday evening, April 14th, some of the Indian River’s volunteer fire company personnel attended a “premier” function developed and hosted by the Delmarva Broadcasting Company (DBC) (Cat Country 97.5 & 105.9 Radio Station) to acknowledge people who go above and beyond in their respective community by volunteering to help others in need. Any man, woman, child living on the Delmarva Peninsula was eligible to be nominated for the recognition program known as Cat Country’s Community Heroes. A panel of judges was chartered with the task of reviewing the nominees submitted during the timer period of February 14, 2011 thru March 25, 2011 and chose 20 people. The selected recipients were announced each morning on the Cat Country “Morning Wake-up Show” during the time period of March 14th thru April 8th. The itinerary permitted the General Manager of DBC – Joe Beail to tender the opening remarks as well as Wayne Littleton to highlight the “Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation;” and then Miss Delaware 2010 Kayla Martell spoke. Miss Delaware also assisted with the distribution of awards and photographs. Each Cat Country Community Hero received special gifts from participating sponsors, four (4) complimentary tickets to the awards banquet, a commemorative plaque, and individual recognition during the awards banquet. Indian River was honored by the nomination and selection of its First Assistant Chief Hayden Klingler as one of the nominees chosen. On March 22, 2011, Hayden Klingler was announced as the recipient chosen as one of the 2011 Community Heroes. Hayden’s nomination is illustrated below. The Community Heroes Awards Banquet was held at the Black Diamond Lodge in Fruitland, Maryland with proceeds from the silent auction to benefit the Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation as well as the Joseph House by the Sea. He is a Life Member of the Holloway Terrace Fire Company and Christiana Fire Company both located in northern Delaware. He is currently Assistant Chief of the Indian River Fire Company in Oak Orchard. Hayden has been an mentor for several young aspiring firefighters throughout the State of Delaware, providing them with the education to maintain safety while fulfilling their duties. He also provides fire prevention to different communities when necessary. He has worked with both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in our local area providing fire prevention materials and tours of the fire company and equipment. And no matter when the siren sounds he is always ready to respond. He has missed several family functions due to his dedication to the fire service. He has mentored his own daughter in becoming a firefighter and is working with his grandson – who now hopes he will become a firefighter in about 6 years."
