Nature: Water Rescue - Drowning(Near)/Diving/SCUBA

Location: White Marlin Court and Hatteras Drive, Pelican Point, Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Friday morning, October 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue incident involving a possible drowning scenario in the vicinity of 28000 block of Hatteras Drive in the Pelican Point development off Indian Mission Road. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine#80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Mutual aid dive team alerts included the Millsboro (83) and Dagsboro (73) units.  Additional alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the local emergency medical services provider, DNREC, and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response personnel coordinated a search and rescue effort in a stormwater retention pond in the private residential community.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Delaware State Police are investigating an apparent drowning Friday morning in a retention pond at the Pelican Point development off Indian Mission Road.  Police say the body of a 27 year-old man was pulled from the pond after a search and rescue effort by DNREC.  An acquaintance of the victim spotted him struggling in the water while swimming.  Police say foul play is not suspected, however they are still investigating.
