Nature: Training Exercises – Rapid Intervention & Mayday Training
Address: Lewes, DE 19958
On Saturday, October 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was invited to jointly train with the Lewes Fire Department on Rapid Intervention Techniques and Mayday Procedures.
The intent and purpose of the training was to enhance and ameliorate skills and techniques with Rapid Intervention and the new statewide policy on mayday alerts. There were several targeted training scenarios and tasks to be accomplished.
Rapid Intervention Team (RIT)
What is a rapid intervention team? A RIT is a group of firefighters, fully equipped, and ready to react instantly to a fellow firefighter(s) in need of assistance. RIT needs to be put in place on all working fires and any incident that could potentially be harmful to life and health, such as: structural fires, technical rescues, water rescues, hazardous material incidents, live burns, and so on.
Additionally, Sussex County Emergency Operations Center Command Unit was available to participate within the training exercise as well.
Indian River volunteers hereby extend their appreciation and thanks to the Lewes Fire Department for the invitation.
