Two kayakers rescued from Rehoboth Bay

On Saturday morning, September 8th, the Indian River (80), Bethany Beach (70), United States Coast Guard, and DNREC Marine Police were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company with a water rescue incident in the Rehoboth Bay near Bay Vista Road.  It was reported to be two kayakers in an area some between Tower Road and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80, Utility 80-11, Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1, and Utility 80-13 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were to respond to Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp and await additional assignments.  Bethany Beach and Indian River were authorized to launch and proceed to the aforementioned area searching for two kayakers reportedly in the water but unfamiliar with their exact location.  Numerous land units responded to various access roads and ramps to attempt visual sightings.  80 Marine 1 launched from the Massey’s Landing with five personnel responding to the assigned area.

The kayakers were located and assisted by the Coast Guard and Bethany Beach Marine Units.  The mariners were transported to Pier Point Marina for additional medical observations.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their designated stations.
