Story
Thursday December, 16 2010 @ 15:19:55 Nature: Traffic / Transportation Acdnt BLS Location: Pot Nets Bayside Address: 34646 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday afternoon, December 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of the entrance road to Pot Nets Bayside. It was reported via the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center that two vehicles were off of the roadway and involved in the incident. The local emergency medical service provider arrived and determined that there was one vehicle into a tree with occupant entrapment. Additional services from the Sussex County Emergency Medical Services (Paramedics) were requested. The single occupant of the vehicle did require extensive vehicle extrication. Engine #80-5 arrived under the command of Jason M. Faulkner, Sr., who implemented the Incident Command, and requested assistance with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, and preparation for extrication. Rescue 80 under the direction of Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. was requested to assist with the aforementioned stabilization tasks as well as help with extrication. The extrication maneuvers would include door pop, removal of door, window and windshield, dash rolls and patient removal from the vehicle. The entire extrication tasks took approximately 55 minutes. The occupant of the vehicle was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional care. It appears that the second vehicle departed the incident location. The Delaware State Fire Police were required to coordinate traffic flow restrictions to one lane on Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident. The Ford Explorer was traveling north on Long Neck Road and apparently lost control for an unknown reason and begun to slid on the snow and icy roadway conditions striking a tree at the driver’s door of the vehicle. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
