Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 26302-26359 John J Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966

 

On Monday afternoon, August 27th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a working structure fire on John J. Williams Highway.  Additional reports provided a more accurate address on Joanne Drive, John Burton Manor.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical services provider. 

Emergency response crew assignments included immediate fire suppression activities, primary and secondary interior residential searches, water supply, ventilation, overhaul, salvage and recovery.  Lewes and Millsboro fire companies provided assistance with all assignments as well as manpower pool for resources.

Initial arriving units reported a single family structure with smoke showing from all the eaves and requested that the fire hydrant be tapped by the first arriving unit.  Additional assignments requested a fire suppression attack lines be placed in service to attempt a quick knock down.  No one was at the residential structure at the time of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control.

One firefighter was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional evaluation. 

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.
