Story
Saturday December, 4 2010 @ 17:47:29 Nature: Structure Fire Address: 34287 Westwood Dr N Millsboro, DE 19966 On Saturday evening, Indian River’s Duty Officer was requested to evaluate a fire condition at the scene of an earlier working manufactured home fire on Westwood Drive North, Pot Nets Creekside. While enroute to the incident location Duty Officer Hayden Klingler received multiple notifications of the conditions and requested a single company dispatch to mitigate these concerns. While approaching the residential location, Duty Officer Klingler noticed the glow and immediately identified a heavy fire condition and requested the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center to upgrade the incident to a working structure fire with exposures to nearby residential locations. The Indian River, Millsboro and Lewes fire companies were alerted for the working structure fire condition. The initial emergency response apparatus was required to access the structure from the north end of the roadway and immediately deploy an 1¾” fire suppression line to address the fire and as well as a second 1¾” fire suppression line to protect the neighboring exposures from the extensive heat situations. All emergency response personnel were notified that this would be an exterior attack only. All residential utilities had been disconnected at the residential structure earlier in the day. All other emergency response apparatus were to provide water resources until the arrival of Indian River and Millsboro tankers. The firefighters were assigned to manpower pools to assist with the incident mitigation which includes complete structure access to sub-flooring levels, crawl space areas, multiple roof and ceiling areas, roof ventilations, and enhancement of wall access. Millsboro and Lewes engines were assigned to coordinate a water supply shuttle to replenish the water supply reserves in the tank trucks. Indian River's brush truck was assigned to address an exposure concern with a neighboring residential property. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident and there were no further injuries associated with the incident.
