Indian River Fire Auxiliary Organizes, Elects Officers

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was organized in a meeting at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Morris last Thursday night.  Mrs. Ella Marvel Roach, of Rehoboth, president of the Sussex County Women’s Auxiliaries Association, presided, and Miss Ruth Vaughn, secretary of the Rehoboth Auxiliary, assisted by acting as secretary.

Elected a president of the new auxiliary was Mrs. Emily Colebourn.  Other officers are Mrs. Daisey E. Pride, vice president; Mrs. Ivah Hastings, secretary; Mrs. Grace Tate, assistant secretary; Mrs. Louise Wilkins, treasurer; Mrs. Angela Birl, assistant treasurer; Mrs. Edna Culver, chaplain; Mrs. Linda B. Showell, sunshine chairman, Mrs. Jean Shugard, program chairman; Mrs. Tommy Etta Walls and Mrs. Mary Pruitt, ways and means; Mrs. Evelyn Morris, music; Mrs. S. H. Showell, Sr. and Mrs. Anamae Rogers, auditors, Mrs. Julia Lingo, publicity.

Following the election, Mrs. Roach presented a gavel to Mrs. Colebourn.  The group voted to accept by-laws patterned after those of the Rehoboth Auxiliary, and Mrs. Angela Birl will have them printed for distribution.  Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Pride, and Mrs. Eva Scott were hostesses for the evening, and served refreshment.

The officers will be installed Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. in Spear’s Hall, Oak Orchard.  Mrs. Roach, county president, will conduct the ceremonies.  Mrs. Martin H. Uhler, state president is expected to attend.
