Monday November, 15 2010 @ 07:45:50 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt BLS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Layton Millsboro, DE 19966 Monday November, 15 2010 @ 07:44:29 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt BLS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Layton Millsboro, DE 19966 On Monday morning, November 15th, during work hour traffic, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Layton Davis Road. It was reported by Fire Police Officer – David Blumenthal who came upon the incident that two vehicles and three patients were in need of the emergency assistance. Fire Police Officer Blumenthal requested responding emergency personnel from Indian River to assist with traffic control and patient care pending the arrival of other emergency response apparatus. Fire Police Officer Blumenthal requested the closure of John J. Williams Highway between Layton Davis Road and Oak Orchard Road for the duration of the incident. Chief Steven Deery responded via Rescue 80 and assisted with patient care assessments, patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, scene clean-up, and coordinated traffic control pending arrival of the Delaware State Police. It appears that a red Ford Mustang was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and collided with a Chevrolet Astro Mini-van that was backing into the roadway. The Mustang sustained significant front end damage while the Chevrolet Astro sustained left front-end damage. All persons that needed additional medical observations were transferred to Beebe Medical Center. The incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Police. The crash occurred when a mini-van by 40 year old Gumercinda Velasquez of Millsboro was backing out of a private drive. Velasquez did not see a Ford Mustang driven by Alexandria Wasko-20 year old from Millsboro, who was going westbound on Route 24. The two vehicles collided resulting in several injuries. Wasko and a passenger were taken to Beebe with neck and knee injuries. Velasquez who was treated for a minor cut, was charged with careless driving and driving without a license. Williams Highway w/o Layton Davis Road around 7:42 a.m. The crash occurred as a Chevrolet Van driven by 40 year old Gumercinda Velasquez of Millsboro was backing out of a private drive. Velasquez failed to observe a Ford Mustang driven by Alexandria Wasko-20 of Millsboro traveling W/B on SR 24. The two vehicles collided resulting in several injuries. Wasko and a passenger sustained neck and knee injuries and were transported to Beebe Medical Center. Velasquez sustained a minor cut treated and released on scene. Velasquez was charged with Careless Driving and Driving without a license. Roadway closed partially for approximately 50 minutes
