Nature: Trailer Fire

Address:  27729 Devon Drive, Millsboro

Early Friday morning, July 20th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire departments were alerted for trailer fire incident on 27729 Devon Drive in the River Winds development off of Oak Orchard Road.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Rescue 80 and Command 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Millsboro fire department and Lewes fire department.  Additional alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crews were assigned to initiate fire suppression lines to prevent the spread of the fire to other nearby structures.  Indian River commenced with the initial fire suppression attack lines.  The Millsboro and Lewes fire departments were assigned to coordinate a primary and secondary search of the residential structure and respond back to the officer in charge.  Additional efforts were utilized for water resources, manpower pool, salvage, recovery and overhaul.

It appears that an exterior shed caught fire and spread the fire into the nearby residential structure.   The American Red Cross was notified of the incident in order to secure assistance for the family of five – two adults and three children.  One seven-year-old child was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Georgetown (77) Fire Department provided a standby cover up assignment for the Millsboro Fire Department.  The Milton (85) Fire Department provided a standby cover up assignment for Indian River Station #1.

The Delaware State Fire Police Officers were utilized to assist.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating.

The American Red Cross was notified to offer assistance to the family that was displaced.
