Nature: Residential Structure Fire (Manufactured Home)
Address: 24501 Dogwood Lane, Shawn’s Hide-a-way, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Sunday afternoon, the Indian River, Millsboro, Rehoboth and Lewes fire companies were alerted for a working residential structure fire on Dogwood Lane, Shawn’s Hide-away. It was reported to be a working situation with smoke showing. A volunteer firefighter residing nearby responded directly to the scene and provided updates of the situation prior to the arrival of any emergency response apparatus. It was stated that smoke and fire were visible from the exterior.
Engine #80-3 was the initial arriving apparatus which activated a 1¾” initial fire suppression attack line, coordinated assignments for incoming apparatus, and provided an initial incident size-up. Engine #80-5 was assigned to provide water supply to Engine #80-3 and initiate ventilation to the structure. Engine #80-1 was assigned to provide a reverse large diameter hose lay in order for Tanker 80 to provide water resources. Engine crews from Lewes, Millsboro and Rehoboth Beach fire companies were to provide manpower assistance at the manpower pool.
It was determined that the incident involved a single wide manufactured home with sizeable residential additions to the structure with wooded decking surrounding much of the front and side of the manufactured home. A substantial interior fire was visible from the exterior of the residential structure and many room and contents were involved. Various emergency response personnel were assigned tasks and responsibilities to mitigate this situation.
The residential property owner was not immediately available and neighbors were attempting to identify if the structure was occupied at the time of the incident. There were some civilian injuries associated with the incident prior to the arrival of the emergency response personnel.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the incident.
