On Tuesday afternoon, July 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway west of Oak Orchard Road. It was reported to be three vehicle chain reaction type incident with multiple complaints of minor injuries.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and additional emergency medical services from the Millsboro Fire Department.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, incident control, vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization pending arrival of ambulance units, debris and fluid recovery.
It appears that all vehicles were traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway approaching Oak Orchard Road when a black Nissan compact car struck the rear of a gray Mazda compact car which then struck the rear of a gray Chevrolet Colorado pick-up causing injury to some occupants and damage to all vehicles.
The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close the westbound traffic of John J. Williams Highway and flow eastbound traffic in the opposite lane of travel. Westbound traffic was detoured on Oak Orchard Road or Mount Joy Roads at their discretion.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
